367th fighter group by olivier le floch

Olivier Le Floch Website and Newsletters

The 367th Fighter Group, USAAF was based at RAF Stoney Cross from April to July 1944 before moving over to France and continuing to support the advancing troops. The 367th were one of the most successful Fighter Groups and they became known as “The Dynamite Gang”. The Group arrived in Europe in April 1944 and flew 14,175 combat sorties destroying 432 enemy aircraft, probably destroying another 28 and damaging 344. They had destroyed or badly damaged 384 railway locomotives, 4,672 motor vehicles and 8,288 railway trucks before returning to the USA in May 1945.

Olivier Le Floch is a French aviation enthusiast, historian, and writer with a particular interest in the 367th Fighter Group and their time in Europe. He has produced a web site and a series of excellent newsletters dealing with the 367thFighter Group’s time in Europe. There are currently 18 newsletters with more under development. Olivier’s newsletters contain a great deal of exceptionally well researched information about the 367th, the squadrons that form the Group, the pilots as well as the supporting ground crew.  They chronicle the activities of the Group, their missions, and their losses. There are first hand stories from pilots as well as excellent photographs of the airfields used by the 367th as well as some of those attacked by them.

I am very grateful to Olivier for agreeing to make available this excellent material on the nfww2airfields.info website. It provides in depth information on the operation of a USAAF Fighter Group during World War 2 and whilst it is specific to the 367th and RAF Stoney Cross, you can imagine the same sort of activities taking place across the New Forest airfields which hosted up to 10 USAAF Fighter Groups at any one time.

All the contents of the 367th Fighter Group website and Olivier’s newsletters remains the copyright of Olivier Le Floch and must not be reproduced or otherwise copied in part, or as a whole, without his express prior permission.
